Class of 2022, Moms and Dad’s college move-in dates are coming up fast! I know you are excited about getting your room upset and decorated. But do you have all the essential dorm room items? Here is a list of things past college clients suggest you need for that first year. Here are some MUST HAVE items for college dorm life!!

Basic Room Items 

  • Mattress top: Dorm room mattresses are thin, and uncomfortable add a nice mattress top for a more restful sleep.
  • Twin Sheets XL
  • Bed pillow
  • Ikea Frakte Storage Bag – They are lightweight, durable, and fold flat for easy storing.
  • Towels
  • Laundry basket/ hamper: Get a laundry basket with rollers or that is a bag for easy transport
  • Shower Caddy: If you have a communal bathroom on your dorm floor, you will be hauling your products back and forth every time you shower.
  • Shower Shoes: Trust me, you don’t want to walk barefoot in communal bathrooms. Any cheap plastic shoe will do.
  • Storage boxes/ cubes: dorm rooms are small storage is a must to put cleaning supplies, makeup, snacks, etc.
  • Futon: if you have room in your dorm, It allows people to come over and hang out and have somewhere to sit, which leads to making more friends
  • Mini Keriug: coffee is a must in college life
  • Mini Fridge: Make sure your dorm room doesn’t have one already before you buy.
  • Command Hooks: To hang all the things, grab all the sizes. They will save the day.

 

Most forgotten Items 

  • First Aid Kit: for the little emergencies
  • Extra Batteries: for remotes, fans, speakers, etc.
  • Umbrella, Raincoat, and Boots: for those rainy treks across campus
  • Bed Rest Pillow: For studying or watching a movie
  • Water Filter: so dorm water can taste like home water
  • Small Safe: to keep your wallet, extra cash, and valuables in
  • Sleep Mask: for your sanity with a night owl roommate
  • Diffuser: for “that” dorm smell when you can’t use candles
  • Full-Length Mirror: for that final check out the door
  • Thermometer: so you know when it’s time to call the doc
  • Tool Kit: for those random fixes
  • Power strip: Never enough pugs
  • Noise-canceling headphones: you never know when you’ll need quiet to study, or because of a headache, or a super annoying roommate, so having noise-canceling headphones will save your sanity.
  • Extra Long Charging cords: You may not have an outlet right next to your bed or desk, so extra long charging cords always come in handy.
  • Desk Organizer: Absolute must-have for keeping all your supplies in one place.
