As a senior photographer serving Eastern North Carolina, I get asked this question a lot “What should I wear for my senior session”? So, of course, it is the perfect question to ask your senior photographer. They should be able to answer this question, and here at SHP, we send you prep guides to help.
5 SENIOR SESSION WARDROBE MISTAKES TO AVOID
1. Neon: while these bright colors may be fun for a night on the town, they aren’t great for your senior pictures. Neon colors can cast their tones onto your face, giving you an odd glow. Unfortunately, they can also overpower your beautiful face, and nobody wants that!
2. Busy Patterns: these kinds of outfits can drown you out in their loudness. Remember that the first thing we want to notice is YOU in your pictures… not a loud pattern that detracts from your face. If you want to wear a patterned dress or top, that’s ok; make sure it’s a more subtle pattern.
3. Colors that don’t complement your skin tone: did you know that depending on your skin tone, there are colors that could wash you out and make you look drab? To stay fresh and your best, use colors known to fit your seasonal shades, like warm, cool, or neutrals.
4. Skirts, Dresses, and Shorts: short-length skirts, dresses, and shorts that expose too much when sitting, squatting, or bending over. Wearing bottoms that are too short will limit how you can be posed during your senior session.
5. Wearing the same colors in all your outfits: Wearing your favorite color is great, but mix it up a little. Find out if you have a warm, cool, or neutral skin tone, and wear colors that make your skin vibrant and fresh! If you must stick with one or two colors, at least vary the shades to mix it up.
Bonus tip… Accessories: These are a must-have for every outfit. Accessories go a long way to making your outfit pop a little more.
