A Stormy Start to Hyla’s Senior Session
Every senior session has its own story — and Hyla’s began with thunder. On my way to her house, the sky put on a dramatic show, and for a moment, I thought her wildflower senior portraits in Chesapeake, VA, might get rained out. But as I got closer, the storm drifted away, revealing the most beautiful sky, which gave us the perfect start to her session.
As I got closer, the storm drifted away. The sky opened up and gave us beautiful light. It felt like the weather knew Hyla had big senior-picture energy to bring. She stepped outside smiling, calm, and completely ready. This was her day, and no storm was going to change that.
Starting at her home made the session feel extra special. There is something meaningful about photographing seniors where they feel most comfortable. The familiar spaces and easy laughter always add to the story. Her sweet pup joined us, too, and those photos are some of my favorites. Most of all, they show so much personality and heart.
Heading to the Backyard Wildflower Patch
After we wrapped up at the house, we headed to one of my favorite hidden gems — the Backyard Wildflower Patch. On the way, the owner texted to warn us about the rain. The clouds looked dark, and for a second, it felt like the storm might return.
But when we arrived, the weather shifted again. The storm moved around the area and left us with perfect golden sunshine. The entire field glowed. The wildflowers lit up and created a warm, dreamy backdrop for the final part of her session. It was truly beautiful.
Hyla’s session reminds me that even when storms try to interrupt, the best moments often happen right after they pass. Her portraits are proof of that. Pure sunshine from start to finish.
